CarrierPoint: Adding Carriers to Partner Lists
When a division would like to begin offering loads to a new carrier, the carrier must be added to the partner list(s) in order for them to be included in the freight tendering process in CarrierPoint.
- The carrier location you add to your partner list should reference your specific division and the dispatch base of operations for that mill. Identifying the owning mill allows both Nucor and the carrier to customize user visibility based on their operational needs.
- Carriers may be added to multiple Partner Lists for the mill location
- We recommend you always add the carrier to the Contract (DFT) partner list, even if your tendering process is based on a different list. This will allow you easy access to a complete list of prepaid carriers without having to run a report.
- For example, if tendering is based on 'Tier' partner lists and the carrier will be included in Tier One, the carrier should be added to both the Tier One partner list and to the Contract partner list.
- If your division pays carriers directly, your back-end system requires the carrier connect to your internal vendor files, or if there are other considerations which will apply to the carrier (Canadian currency, exemption from retractions, etc.), you will need to update the carrier partner attributes accordingly
More detailed instructions are outlined below, but here is a quick reference on how to add a carrier to your Partner List:
-
Verify the carrier is eligible to transport prepaid freight for Nucor using our Nucor Carrier Management Portal (CMP)
- Locate the CarrierPoint Company ID number for the carrier
- Create a unique carrier location for your division
- Add the location to the desired partner lists - must use CLASSIC theme interface for this step
- Assign visibility for carrier users
- Update the carrier's partner attributes (if needed)
You may click on any of the links to go directly to that section
Verify the carrier you want to add is eligible to transport prepaid freight for Nucor:
- Log into Nucor’s Carrier Management Portal (CMP) by clicking here or use the link on the NucorNet Logistics page
- If this is the first time you have accessed the CMP Tool, when you click "Login" you will need to answer a short questionnaire, and then a notification will be sent to the Support team to provision access to the tool for you.
-
Using the search box in the upper righthand corner, search for the carrier by name, SCAC, DOT number or MC number. Remember to match the DOT number as there are often multiple carriers with a similar name or which use 'doing business as' names that may differ significantly from the legal name.
-
For example, if you wanted to set up the carrier "Steel Transport", you would need their DOT number to correctly identify the right entry
- If no matching carrier is shown, contact the Nucor Logistics Center Contracts & Insurance team for assistance
- Click on the carrier name to view the carrier details
- Verify the carrier's status is Master Approved
If the status is not Master Approved, you can not use the carrier. Please contact the Nucor Logistics Center Contracts & Insurance team for assistance.
Locate the CarrierPoint Company ID number for the carrier:
- Scroll down toward the bottom of the carrier detail record in Carrier Management Portal (CMP)
- The Carrier Point ID is located below the insurance details and above the activity log
- Note this number down on a scrap piece of paper
Create a carrier location for your division
CarrierPoint Support requests that this step be done using the CLASSIC-theme user interface only until an underlying bug can be corrected.
- In CarrierPoint, got to SetUp ... Operations SetUp ... Carrier Directory
- Search for carrier by name, SCAC, MC number and/or DOT number
- Identify the correct carrier by matching the Co.ID with the CarrierPoint ID noted in CMP
- Verify the insurance marker is active. It should show a green check or a yellow circle.
- If the insurance marker is a red circle or a question mark, do not add the carrier. Contact the Nucor Logistics Center Contracts & Insurance team for assistance.
- Click the "assign" link on the right to go to the Carrier Partner List Assignment page
- Check the Carrier Location drop-down menu to confirm that a division-appropriate location does not already exist.
- If an appropriate location does exist, skip to the next section
- Click the "add new carrier location" link located under the Carrier Location drop-down
- Enter the Location Name and address information for the dispatch office that will be primary for the division
- Location Name should be set as City - NSXX (for example, West Moreland-NSBC)
- Do NOT add Dedicated to the name
- The street address entered should be the location of the dispatch office that will be primarily responsible for the division freight (not their corporate office)
- Select the main dispatch contact from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page
- Click the Next button
- You will be directed to a page to create a user - DO NOT CONTINUE. Click the "Back" button to return to the Carrier Partner List Assignment page.
Add the location to the desired partner lists
- On the Carrier Partner List Assignment page, open the Carrier Location drop-down menu and locate the carrier location appropriate for your division. Wait for the page to reload after you have changed the location. This may take several seconds; you should see the screen flash.
- Note that "Dedicated" is now shown as part of the location name. This means carrier visibility to load information is controlled by Nucor. It does not imply that the carrier is part of any sort of dedicated arrangement with the division or with Nucor.
- Enter your mill code in the Location Ref Code box in the center section and press the Go button in that box. This will restrict the screen to show only partner lists for your division.
- Move the radio button to Pre-Assigned for all the partner lists where you want to add the carrier.
- Click the Submit button. The lines marked as Pre-Assigned will now be shown highlighted in yellow.
Assign visibility to carrier users
More detailed instructions can be found in the article specifically for visibility, which can be found here.
- On the Carrier Partner List Assignment page, confirm that the Carrier Location drop-down menu shows the carrier location appropriate for your division
- Click the "Manage Routing" link to see the list of active carrier users
- Click the "assign" link next to all the users you want to be able to see your loads
- Run the Carrier Users Report to confirm that the changes to visibility were successfully applied.
Update the carrier's partner attributes (as needed)
Most carriers will be subject to the normal rules (or default settings) that govern carrier behavior. In this case, adding the carrier to your desired partner lists is all that's necessary.
However, there may be some cases where certain carriers will either be exempt from a normal rule or will have a special requirement apply specifically to them. Some examples of this include: special accessorial schedules, special fuel surcharges schedules, exemption from retractions or ceiling rates (particularly dedicated carriers), etc.
When this is required, you need to update the carrier's Partner Attributes accordingly.
- Go to Setup ... Operations Setup ... Partner Lists
- Confirm you are seeing partner lists for your location
- Find the partner list the carrier is on and click the "view/edit" link
- Click on the carrier name to access the Partner Attributes
- Update settings as needed
- Tick the box "Prevent location defaults from overriding these settings"
- Scroll to the bottom and click Submit
