General: Nucor Fuel Surcharge Program
Nucor has a standard method for managing the fuel surcharge paid to carriers. Our program is designed to help mitigate the effects of market fluctuations in fuel cost. This allows carriers to use a static fuel assumption in their line-haul rate quotes, knowing the fuel surcharge would make up any difference. It is not a fuel recovery program (which would serve to cover the carrier's full fuel cost).
Fuel Surcharge (FSC) is paid on a Per Mile basis and uses the US Department of Energy regional fuel surcharge indices
- Nucor locations have been assigned a PADD region index based on their location
- FSC is updated weekly and is effective the current Wednesday following the Monday fuel index publication
- All miles are calculated using PC Miler and are available by viewing the load detail
- Nucor uses a common base price of $1.30 per gallon
- Nucor uses a fuel efficiency factor of 6 miles per gallon

Note that Nucor Connecticut (NSCT) uses a fuel Northeast fuel surcharge, which includes only East Coast states north of Virginia.
